Thèse de doctorat en médecine (Strasbourg, 1856, n° 375), très rare. Cette thèse remarquable fait date dans l'histoire de la néphrologie. L'auteur se révèle un expérimentateur exceptionnel. Il modifie la méthode de Liebig pour mesurer de façon plus sensible la quantité d'urée dans le sang, met en évidence un gradient artério-veineux de l'urée dans le sang rénal (avec un taux d'urée deux fois moindre dans la veine rénale que dans l'artère), et étudie l'urémie dans diverses situations pathologiques. Ainsi il démontre qu'une augmentation de l'urée n'est pas toujours irréversible (cas de déshydratation aiguë, comme le choléra), et qu'il existe de grandes variations cliniques dans les affections rénales chroniques (avec existence d'insuffisances rénales latentes, asymptomatiques). Joseph Picard (1834-1895), né à Wissembourg (Alsace), étudia la médecine à Strasbourg, où il fut interne des hôpitaux. Landmark document by the Art Workers Coalition which compiled documents and correspondence aggregated to push for better situations for artists. 121 pages in stiff stapled wraps, this original is quite scarce in any condition, this copy being quite decent with one or two notes, most significant of which is a large stain to front cover, alongside some similar but significantly smaller and more faint iterations on front and back panel. Couple of teeny tiny dot stains to front and rear free endpages but hardly so and no other stains besides. Offset toning to full vertical length of front panel, also a bit around the very edges of the margins of the covers and to a lesser extent the interior pages. Staples rusted but still seem quite sturdy, and seems binding should hold well. Interior is clean and free of marks. Covers now in mylar.…
