He went on to create the Golf Turfgrass School and the Nevada Gardener Magazine. Howland worked for various garden design magazines and authored "The House Beautiful Book of Gardens and Outdoor Living" in 1948 with many of his own landscape images as well as, work by Eckbo, Rose, church And others from California, Florida, New England.
