Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This new biography on Major William E. Simmons (18391931) emphasizes his experiences as an infantry officer in the Army of Northern Virginia. Three years after graduating from Emory College, Simmons joined the first company in his home county and received his commission. He was later promoted to Captain in the elite 3rd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters of Woffords Brigade. In 1864, he became acting commander of the brigades sharpshooter battalion. A wealth of information from Simmons journal and personal papers includes encounters with Generals Nathan Bedford Forrest and George Armstrong Custer. There are also accounts of his miraculous escape from Cramptons Gap at South Mountain, his regiments heroic efforts at the Bloody Lane in the Battle of Sharpsburg, the Sunken Road at Fredericksburg, the Peach Orchard and Wheat Field at Gettysburg, and his sharpshooters key role at Cold Harbor and Woffords flank attack at the Wilderness.

Originally released in 1941 as "Dick Tracy vs. Crime, Inc.," this last of the four Republic "Dick Tracy" serials was re-released in 1952 under the title "Dick Tracy vs. [the] Phantom Empire." Considered by film historian, William R. Cline as one of the most outstanding of all serials, and by film critics Jim Harmon and Donald Glut as the best of the Dick Tracy serials. Dick Tracy and his allies must face the villain known as The Ghost, who has the ability to become invisible. 41 x 52.5 inches. Folded as issued. Very Good, with starting at the center folds and two vertical closed tears at the bottom folds.

Byrd, best known for his role in Republic's "Dick Tracy" series, was here being groomed to play better roles for the company. Joe Kane's first non-Western feature film.
