Édition originale rare du premier traité sur le sujet, correspondant à l'édition en librairie de la monumentale et novatrice thèse de doctorat en médecine de l'auteur. /// THE FIRST FRENCH TEXTBOOK ON RADIOTHERAPY (WITH APPLICATIONS TO DERMATOLOGY) // Joseph Belot (1876-1953), élève de Béclère (pionnier de la radiologie), avait été appelé par Brocq, dermatologue et médecin des hôpitaux de Paris, pour s'occuper exclusivement, dans son service, des applications de la radiothérapie naissante aux affections cutanées. Cet ouvrage, basé sur une revue de la littérature et surtout sur les travaux de Belot, est divisé en 3 parties. On trouve, dans la 1ère partie, des généralités sur les rayons X, avec l'étude des instruments de mesure spéciaux pour pratiquer la radiothérapie "d'une façon scientifique et sans danger pour le patient". La 2ème partie traite de la radiothérapie et la dernière, de loin la plus volumineuse (pp. 273-499), est consacrée aux applications cutanées. Belot expose les méthodes de traitement et les résultats obtenus dans les tumeurs malignes (mycosis fongoïde, mélanome, carcinome etc.), le lupus vulgaire, le psoriasis, la sclérodermie, les kéloïdes etc. La bibliographie (pp. 501-516) est exhaustive. Ce livre présente l'intérêt d'être très bien illustré, avec de belles planches montrant (parfois dans des scènes animées) le matériel utilisé ou encore des patients avant et après traitement. Cet ouvrage fut très bien accueilli dans la littérature médicale internationale et une deuxième édition, revue et augmentée, fut publiée dès l'année suivante.
