Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Les crimes allemands d'après des témoignages allemands, published in 1916, presents a compilation of accounts and testimonies documenting alleged German war crimes during World War I. Authored by Joseph Bédier, this work reflects the intense propaganda efforts of the time, aiming to sway public opinion and galvanize support for the Allied cause. The book meticulously details purported atrocities, drawing from German sources to bolster its credibility. Bédier's work offers a valuable insight into the psychological warfare tactics employed during the conflict. While the accuracy and impartiality of the accounts have been subject to historical scrutiny, the book remains an important primary source for understanding the narratives that shaped public perception of the war. It provides a window into the emotional and political climate of the era, revealing the strategies used to demonize the enemy and justify the immense sacrifices demanded by the war. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Le Roman de Tristan, presented here as Volume 47, part 2, is a retelling of the classic Tristan and Iseult legend by Joseph BÃ(c)dier. Drawing upon various medieval sources, including the work of Thomas of Britain, BÃ(c)dier crafts a compelling narrative of forbidden love, chivalry, and tragic fate. This edition offers readers a valuable opportunity to engage with a foundational work of French literature and to explore the enduring themes of passion and duty that have resonated through centuries. BÃ(c)dier's accessible prose makes this a perfect entry point for those new to the Tristan legend, while also providing a nuanced perspective for seasoned scholars of Arthurian romance. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Publication: London, William Heinemann, 1910 Formatting: 4to, pp. xiii, [i], 218. Condition Report: Very Good. The original publisherâs blue cloth binding remains remarkably bright and sound, presenting a crisp gilt spine and unblemished silver and black tooling to the front board, with only trivial bumping to the corners and extremities. The binding is firm and square. Internally, the untrimmed text block shows noticeable foxing to the preliminary leaves and deckled page edges, typical of the paper stock used during this period. However, the central text block and the twenty tipped-in colour plates remain notably clean, bright, and securely attached, with all original captioned tissue guards fully intact and present. A strong, highly presentable copy of a beautifully produced edition. Catalogue Note: This is the First UK Edition in English of Florence Simmonds' translation of Joseph BÃ dier's acclaimed text. The volume is magnificently illustrated by the French artist Maurice Lalau, featuring twenty exquisite tipped-in colour plates mounted on heavy card stock. These illustrations masterfully capture the mythic atmosphere and medieval aesthetic of the tragic romance. The front free endpaper bears a neat early ink ownership signature dated 1913. This specific 1910 Heinemann publication is scarce on the open market in such a well-preserved state, as the heavy text block and delicate tipped-in plates often result in severely strained or split bindings. Copies retaining bright, unfaded cloth and intact internal hinges are increasingly uncommon. Few legends have captured the romantic imagination quite like the tragic tale of Tristram and Iseult. Originally reconstructed by the esteemed French scholar Joseph BÃ dier, this masterful medieval romance breathes life into the eternal story of the Cornish knight and the Irish princess, bound together by an accidental love potion and a fateful destiny. Translated into English by Florence Simmonds, this edition elevates the Arthurian mythos through Maurice Lalauâs breathtaking, richly coloured illustrations, making it a definitive and beautiful presentation of one of Western literature's greatest tragedies. Maurice Lalau (illustrator).…
