Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good-. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Edition. There is an ink name "W E Johns" on the title page, but this does not look to me like an authentic signature in several respects - it looks scratchy and indecisive, the line beneath has a squiggle in it unlike the straight line under other Johns signatures, and the "n" actually looks like an "n", instead of like a "u" or an "a" as in other Johns' signatures. NB: This is being sold with no assurances about the authenticity of the signature, about which I have doubts. Fading to ends of spine and margins of boards. Ink number on front endpaper. 25mm chips missing at head and tail of dust-jacket spine. 12mm chip to lower margin of front panel of dust-jacket. 22 x 4mm chip at head of front flap fold of dust-jacket. The red price lettering on the dust-jacket spine has faded to being nearly invisible, but held at the right angle it can be seen that "3/6 NET" was printed on the dust-jacket spine. Quite heavy foxing to dust-jacket spine. No repairs to dust-jacket. Dust-jacket protected in archival mylar cover.; First printing. 224 pages. Blue cloth boards with black lettering and publisher's sundial emblem on spine. Page dimensions: 182 x 121mm. A collection of 20 true aviation stories, each titled "My Most Thrilling Flight", by 20 different contributors. Edited by W. E. Johns. Chapter 4 is by W. E. Johns. Dust-jacket art by Howard Leigh. Rear panel of dust-jacket lists 17 titles in the "Ace" series, the last title listed is "The Camels Are Coming".
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good+. First Edition ?. No date stated but reliably believed to be 1935. A scarce title with 20 stories in all mostly by R.A.F. officers, inluding one story by Johns, each is entitled 'My Most Thrilling Flight'. Pale blue cloth stamped in black on spine. Very tidy and tight with no marks. The spine is slightly faded as are the very edges of the panels. Dust jacket depicts 3 biplanes in a dogfight, not price-clipped, several tears, gaps to spine ends and bottom of rear panel, rubbing with small tears in leading edge, held in an archival sleeve. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
