Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Good. First Edition. Chicago: John V. Stevens, 1893. First edition [1893]. Scarce annual record of papers presented at the annual meetings of state societies of The Eclectic Physicians of America. American Eclecticism was once a recognized branch of medicine that relied heavily on native American herbs and other plants. They were considered eclectic since they used about anything that worked to help or cure a patient, usually herbs but also homeopathic procedures. This branch of medicine was most popular in the nineteenth century and eventually fell out of favor in the early 20th century with the advent of more modern medicine and wonder drugs. The last official school of Eclectic medicine closed its doors in 1939, although there has been some modern resurgence in this area of study. This volume contains a wide variety of subject matter ranging from hernias to ophthalmology, from obstetrics to typhoid, from foreign immigration to nervous and mental diseases, much more. Illustrated with black and white portraits of prominent Eclectic physicians. Green cloth lettered in gilt and decorated in blind, 495, [1], vii, x, [8]p, the last two sections containing advertisements, the second printed in black and red. Some light cover wear and soil, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages free from names or other markings, some minor dampstaining to the far top edge of the final advertising section. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
