Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Churches of France' offers a profound exploration of the architectural splendor and historical significance of the sacred monuments that define the French landscape. No Binding. Zustand: Near Fine. John Taylor Arms studied to be an architect, and his eye is well trained to the formalities of landscape and perspective. But it is the obsessive, meticulous details in this etching that give the piece a real sense of place. Arms was noted for using a sewing needle and a magnifying glass to etch his plates. The place is Bibury, England, a small town in Gloucestershire. Arms eloquently writes about the power of old places; beautiful peaceful places; to heal a communities ravaged by war. We offer a pencil signed etching by Arms which was the Print Club of Albany selection for 1947-1948. The plate size of "The Old Order" is 5 ¼" x 7 ¾", printed on a sheet of white wove paper measuring 7 ¾" 10 ½". It is signed at the lower right and dated 1948 in graphite. At the lower left is marked "II". John Taylor Arms(1887-1953) was born in Washington DC. He studied law at Princeton, but finished his education at MIT with a degree in architecture. After serving in the Navy during WWI, Arms devoted his time to making original etchings, he published his first works in 1919. His work is in collection at the Metropolitan Museum, The New York Public Library, The Library of Congress, the British Museum and the Bibiotheque Nationale, Paris. Condition: There are three small pieces of adhesive tissue on recto along the top margin, as issued by the Albany Print Club, otherwise the print is in fine condition. Signed by Illustrator(s).

No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. In this effusive two-page typed letter signed, Arms goes on at great length about the gift of prints that artist/friend, Eugene[?] has given to him. "I honestly believe your work and your friendship have been the most powerful influences for good in my life, and if I have done anything worth-while it is because of an inspiration largely derived from you." Arms signs "Your devoted friend, John," signs a postscript "John," and has made two manuscript corrections in his hand. John Taylor Arms (1887-1953) is primarily known for his printmaking/etching prowess. He served as president of the Society of American Graphic Artists and was a member of the National Academy of Design. Typed on two 12" x 8 1/2" sheets of letterhead imprinted: "Mill Stones' Studio of John Taylor Arms Greenfield Hill Fairfield, Conn." Condition: Fold lines with a short separation at the right margin of page two repaired on verso with archival tissue/tape. Otherwise very good. Signed by Author(s).
