In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with damage to second leaf from breaking of seal. Folded twice. Written in a tight, florid hand. Reads: 'Dear Sir | I hear there will be no admission into Your Church tomorrow without tickets. If you should have any of said Tickets to spare, please to favour with one two or three according to circumstances Yours Very Faithfully | J Landseer'. Joseph John Scoles was the first in a succession of four architects who lived at 11 Argyll Place between 1832 and 1903. The letter would appear to refer to one of the many Roman Catholic churches he designed.

The first New York edition of this account of Muir's trial for sedition, a Scottish political reformer and the first political prisoner transported to Australia. Muir was sentenced to 14 years transportation for the the crime of sedition; for campaigning for parliamentary reform and for distributing copies of Thomas Paine's 'The Rights of Man'. The first American edition does not include viii pp in the preliminaries or at the end of the text. OCLC: 25578183. See Libraries Australia ID 68902705 for the 3rd American edition. A notation in Trove states that the 2nd edition includes viii p at the end and in the prelims and "are not present in the first ed., otherwise it is the same setting of type". Modern quarter calf and brown cloth, with leather title piece at front cover; no title at spine.

Notes towns, waterways and Indian tribes. Much of the geography is still inaccurately depicted: notably, Greenland is attached to the mainland. Published in John Payne's "A New and Complete System of Universal Geography". Light scattered foxing to margins, original tab insert at bottom edge. John Payne was a little-known cartographer based in New York in Philadelphia towards the end of the 18th century. John Low (1763-1809) was a New York based printer and publisher. He is best known for publishing John Payne's "A New and Complete System of Universal Geography" from 1798-1800, with many of the Payne's maps also appearing in Low's "New Encyclopedia", issued from 1805-1811.
