Erstausgabe
Unbound. Zustand: Very Good. One issue only (Vol. 1, No. 6: May, 1851). Large folio. 4pp. A very good untrimmed copy with light old folds, scattered small closed tears at the edges, and some minor foxing. The *Journal* served as the official organ of the New York State Colonization Society. Edited by John Pinney, a missionary and former governor of the colony of Liberia, the paper featured articles on African-American colonists and their settlements in Liberia, on the activities of various other Colonization Societies throughout the United States, and on subjects relating to Africa and the African slave trade, "the black race," and the West Indies. This issue includes articles on the "Exploration of Africa," "African Colonization," and "The African Slave Trade," together with letters from Liberia and a call for African-Americans: "Emigrants Wanted," to consider settling in Liberia. A scarce early issue, documenting the African-American experience with Colonization Societies and their settlements in Liberia.
