From the prefatory note: 'The author has perhaps to apologize throughout the whole of this small Volume, for some inaccuracies of stile, peculiarities of thought, and various other errors. Most unpleasantly remote from his many valuable and literary connections, not a single piece or page has had the advantage of friendly correction, or amending revisal. But the whole has been upon almost sudden thought, hurried from the port-folio to the press.'.
