240 pp.; 23 x 16 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed "We owe our idea of the contemporary exhibition to Harald Szeemann--the first of the jet-setting international curators. From 1961 to 1969, he was Curator of the Kunsthalle Bern, where in 1968 he had the foresight to give Christo and Jeanne-Claude the opportunity to wrap the entire museum building. Szeemann''s groundbreaking 1969 exhibition When Attitudes Become Form, also at the Kunsthalle, introduced European audiences to artists like Joseph Beuys, Eva Hesse, Richard Serra and Lawrence Weiner. It also introduced the now-commonplace practice of curating an exhibition around a theme. Since Szeemann''s death in 2005, there has been research underway at his archive in Tessin, Switzerland. An invaluable resource, this volume provides access to previously unpublished plans, documents and photographs from the archive, along with important essays by Hal Foster and Jean-Marc Poinsot. There is also an informative interview with Tobia Bezzola--curator at the Kunsthauz Zurich and Szeemann''s collaborator for many years. Two of Szeemann''s most ambitious exhibitions are presented as case studies: Documenta 5 (1972) and L''Autre, the 4th Lyon Biennial (1997). A biography, an illustrated chronology of Szeemann''s exhibitions and a selection of his writings complete this exhaustive survey." -- publisher''s statement. Zustand: New. Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 2. Auflage. Z : 16 x 21,5 cm, 456 pages, with 100 black/white images - Andy Warhol, Susan Sontag, John Lennon & Yoko Ono Jonas Mekas was well acquainted with a great many New York artists. Born in Lithuania, he came to Brooklyn via Germany in 1949 and began shooting his first experimental films there. Mekas developed a form of film diary in which he recorded his daily observations. He became the barometer of the New York art scene and a pioneer of American avant-garde cinema. Every week, starting in 1958 he published his legendary »Movie Journal« column in the Village Voice, writing on a range of subjects that were by no means restricted to the world of film. He conducted numerous interviews with artists, some of which will now appear for the first time in his Scrapbook of a Sixties. The book contains published and unpublished texts that reveal Mekas as a thoughtful diarist and an unparalleled chronicler of the day a phenomenon that has continued now for over fifty years.

Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 16,5 × 24 cm, 6 ½ × 9 ½ in, 368 pages, 345 illustrations - Often seen as a pioneer of a brutalist modernism of reinforced concrete, Marcel Breuer might best be understood through the lens of the changing institutional structures in and for which he worked. More recently historians, architects, and with the reopening of the great megalith of his Whitney Museum as the Met Breuer in New York a larger public are gaining new insights into the cities and large-scale buildings Breuer planned.
