The three items in fair condition, lightly aged and worn. ONE: ALS [to Bartelot] from 'J. Crosland'. (There are postcards printed by 'J. Crosland and Son, Post Office, Sutton Bridge Wisbech.') 3pp., 12mo. He begins with reference to a Wesley letter which 'has been in the family about 50 years more rather than less the family has been connected with Methodism almost from the days of Wesley himself without a break.' He also discusses 'a statue in white (parian marble) I think it is standing 6 ½ in high (Base on which he stands 1 in) in full clerical robe with open book in left hand & the right hand uplifted evidently in the act of addressing the people or preaching.' This has been 'in the family 3 generations at least'. TWO: ALS to Bartelot from Rev. J. S. Simon. 2pp., 4to. He is 'interested in John Wesley's pedigree' and has been in correspondence with 'Mr. Broadley of Bridport', who suggested he should write. He asks for elucidation regarding 'Calamy's statement', going into detail on the question of Wesley's wife's uncle Thomas Fuller. He requests 'light on the subject of the marriage and death of John Westley, and on the place of his burial'. THREE: Printed handbill in light blue and red, headed: 'The Liverpool Wesleyan Methodist Council. | BI-CENTENARY OF WESLEY'S BIRTH, | 1703 JUNE 17th 1903. | PROGRAMME'. 1p., 8vo. Includes an organ recital by Dr A. L. Peace, and contributions by seven clergymen: Joseph Jackson, T. J. Choate, E. T. Carrier, T. Hughes, Owen Roberts, H. J. Taylor and Robert Killip. No other copy traced, either on OCLC WorldCat, or on COPAC.

He is sorry not to have been able to accept Flower's hospitality: 'Let us hope to meet about Whitsuntide for the pilgrimage to Firle'. He is eager for information for his 'Sussex Worthies'. 'My eldest dau[ghte]r's marriage & the starting of my eldest son on his professional career cost money, & every 30s. [subscription) will help.' Letter Two (9 November 1865): 12mo, 1 p. 13 lines. He has received the 30s. He 'cannot fix the time' for a visit to Croydon, being 'full of care & bustle'. He has an 'excellent working library', but cannot buy books, although the 'book on Danish Antiquities is a tempting bait'.

On both sides of a piece of vellum roughly 21 x 15.5 cm. An unusual survival, aged and discoloured in the fashion customary with vellum. On the front is a design of an armorial shield encircled in draperies, in ink and colours (blue, red, yellow), beneath which are the words 'Burgess Ticket | for | Captain Kennedy 1 Regt Royal Lanarkshire Local Militia | 1813'. On the reverse, all in the hand of the signatory: 'At Hamilton the thirteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and thirteen | The which day in presence of William Hamilton and John Torrance Esqrs Baillies of the Burgh of Hamilton with Consent of the remaining Members of the Town Councill thereof Captain James Kennedy 1st Regt Royal Lanarkshire Local Militia was duly admitted Burgess of said Burgh with Liberty to him to Enjoy the whole Priviledges and Immunities thereto belonging as amply in all respoects as any Burgess does, or can Enjoy who accepted thereof and Gave his Oath de fideli | Extracted by | A Hamilton Clk'.
