In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. Alternatively titled "Port Sudan-Jeddah Cable Agreement". Single leaf 15x24cm, printed 4/27, (1)pp title, (1)pp English text. Good, extracted from a larger volume with perforations and minor loss along the spine, and small Admiralty ink stamp to the front. Upon his conquest of the Hejaz in 1924-5, Ibn Saud appointed his son Faisal as Viceroy on 9 Feb 1926, and in the same year established the Directorate of Posts, Telegraph and Telephones. This very early Saudi agreement was signed by Amir Faisal for the Hejaz Government, Governor General John Loader Maffey for Sudan, and Vice Consul and Agent at Jeddah S.R. Jordan for the British on 18 Dec 1926. It considers the Port Sudan-Jeddah Cable (formerly known as the Jeddah-Suakin Cable) to be the joint property of the Sudan and Hejaz Governments, dividing the "unexpected balance" of credit in its accounts equally between them. The Eastern Telegraph Company Ltd is authorised to take over its maintenance, and until that time the Hejaz Govt commits to cover the costs of messages transmitted via Port Sudan.
