His Elements of Moral Philosophy draws upon the work of two earlier authors. The first section "Theory of Morals" draws on the work of Thomas Brown (1778-1820), a Scottish physician, philosopher, and poet. Brown held the Chair of Moral Philosophy at Edinburgh University from 1810 to 1820. The second section "Practical Ethics" relied on the work of William Paley (1743-1805). Paley's Principles of Moral and Political Economy (1782) was hailed for its contributions to the discussion of liberty and virtue. Considered an essential text for Cambridge undergraduates, Paley's ideas were disseminated by writers such as Parkhurst in the book here for sale.** First Edition.** "Postage for oversized and international shipping will be calculated by size and weight.
