About the book >.>.> When we talk about bird studies, we often think about birds in fields, meadows, wet-lands, or forests. We rarely think about birds in villages and towns but there are many reasons for doing so, as this book ably demonstrates. Obviously, one important rea-son is that among birds in human settlements there are few species that are highly endangered. An additional reason is that the specific bird communities of the urban environment are of recent origin and are evolving all the time. The species of animals and plants found in towns and villages originate from and are found in natural habi-tats, especially forests. There is little doubt that compared to other habitats, the ani mals and plants in urban situations have been sadly neglected in scientific studies and there is much for us to learn.
