Paperback. 56 complete issues. 12mo. Pictorial wrappers. (Ca. 15-20pp each). Illustrations. Very good to near fine. A fine gathering of 56 early issues of this monthly, starting with March 1929 (Volume 3, Number 3) and ending with July 1942 (Volume 16, Number 7). Not a complete run between these years (which would run 168 issues), but rather a couple to several issues from each of these 14 years. The Book-of-the-Month Club's main competitor began issuing inexpensive reprints of popular current releases the year after the BOMC's 1926 founding, though LGA's founders claim 1922 as their true birth year. In any case, a hefty fistful of these tiny magazines chronicling mainstream America's reading interests from the beginning of the Great Depression to the beginning of World War Two. All are tight, attractive and well illustrated.
