With Juta & company label to acknowledgements page. liv+720 pages with index. Cloth. Very good indeed with light stain to fore edge of page block in dustjacket. Ask to see our other African Studies titles. This work, written by prominent South African academics, provides an introduction to the new constitutional order in South Africa. It does not aim to provide a detailed commentary on fundamental rights in South Africa, but instead seeks to place the rights affirmed in the constitution in a comparative and international context. In doing so the book focuses upon the principles that form the foundation of the new constitutional order: the supremacy of the Constitution, the notion of a democratic constitutional state, and the judicial protection of fundamental rights.…

Occasional light creasing, fore-edges lightly bumped. Small ink stamped address on the rear cover page, for mailing, reads: "Library for Social and Technological Alternatives | Box 472 | Fairfax, CA 94930." Earth First! is a group of radical environmentalists that formed in the American Southwest in the spring of 1980, founded by Dave Foreman, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, Bart Koehler, and Ron Kezar, among others. Earth First! quickly came to national attention with their "cracking" of Glen Canyon Dam activist stunt, which was performed and filmed in the spring of 1981. Edward Abbey is considered to be the "literary father" of the group. "Earth First! is the beginning of the new, bold environmental movement. And 'Earth First! The Radical Environmental Journal' is its voice" (Dave Foreman, Editor). Cover story by Howie Woke is entitled "Stop the Forest Service!" Smith writes on page 8, "With regard to slavery, and extension of territory, I assure you that, neither a slave market, nor any other object, was General Taylor in favor of conquest and annexation. He was not in favor of conquest and annexation. He was not in favor of receiving Texas into our Union, nor in favor of the recent war with Mexico. The only evidence of his being in favor of slavery, that I ever saw or heard of, was the fact that he did what every man at the South must do, if he would have servants, viz: either own or hire slaves. I do well remember that a part at least of the colored people living in his family could read well, and were very pious. I never heard a word from the General in favor of the slave system; but on the contrary, has decided preference for the institutions and customs of the North.".…
