The series was enduringly popular, and the finalWhistle Binkieanthology appeared in 1890.The term 'Whistle-Binkie' being here applied to any kind of popular entertainer, whether singer, story-teller, or indeed whistler; John D. Carrick helpfully supplied an erudite dissertation on the subject to the 1839 edition. Subsequent series were edited by Alexander Roger, eventually running to the five series presented here. The work completed in 1843 with a sixth part called "Songs for the Nursery," a very valuable and curious collection of modern nursery rhymes and songs. Rebacked in contemporary full calf, with handwritten spine title and chipped reference label to the spine tail. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and loss to the spine tail and title and reference labels. Minor damp marks to the rear board. Bookplate of James Balfour to the front paste down, with ink impression of James S. Reid. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the occasional spot or handling mark.
