Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. About The Book: In the book titled "An Historical Sketch of the Prices of India," the author scrupulously analyzes the historical and political terrain within India's parliamentary scrutiny. Drawing from various sources, such as committee reports and treaties, the text delivers a succinct overview of the connections between Native Princes and Great Britain. The book illuminates the ascent of British power in the East, uncovering the causes and events leading to foreign rule, offering valuable insights into the errors and remedies of governing authorities in India. The chronological sketch traces the progression of reform from its inception to the establishment of British ascendancy, providing a glimpse into Emperor Aurangzeb's reign and the subsequent power struggles among his heirs. In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Good to Very Good - See Descri. Presumed First Edition. 1833. Presumed first edition. xii, 209pp. The author of this book is only given as 'An Officer in the Services of the Honourable East India Company', but it is understood to be a certain John Clunes. He left England at an early age and devoted his life to service and observation in India, bringing practical administrative experience to his writing. He published several book on India, and in this work, drawing from various sources, such as committee reports and treaties, he delivers an overview of the connections between Native Princes and Great Britain. The book illuminates the ascent of British power in the East, uncovering the causes and events leading to foreign rule, and offers insights into the errors and remedies of governing authorities in India. The chronological sketch traces the progression of reform from its inception to the establishment of British ascendancy, providing a glimpse into Emperor Aurangzeb's reign and the subsequent power struggles among his heirs. The book is bound in later (probably early 20th century) dark green cloth covered boards with a leather label from an earlier binding on the spine. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and staining to the boards. The cloth on the corner tips is worn and the spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few scattered small marks and a more noticeable 1" black ink stain on the fore edge of the text block containing the preliminary and first four pages, and the stain has seeped into up to about 1/2" of the fore margin of the pages. There is also foxing to the preliminary and first and last few pages, including a few light marks on the title-page. The rear free endpaper appears to have been pasted onto the rear fixed endpapers and is browned and foxed. There is a presentation label to a university library on the front fixed endpaper that has been overlaid with a 'cancelled' stamp.…
