Catholic Archbishop Aloysius Stepinac was imprisoned by the post-war Yugoslav Communist regime following a show trial in 1946. Pope Pius XII elevated him to status…of Cardinal in 1952 while he was still under house arrest, and Pope John Paul II declared him a Martyr with Beatification in 1998. The Archbishop of Dublin, in his foreword to this book, while stating that "The case of Archbishop Stepinac is very complex and very simple." concludes that in his trial and unjust condemnation, the Archbishop "is but another symbol of the unending persecution of the One, True Church." Some dusting and wear to covers, otherwise a very good copy without any library stamps, inscriptions, or other markings. Images available on request.

Archbishop of Dublin, Primate of Ireland concludes this Lenten pastoral with reference to Trinity College, Dublin with: "Elizabeth the First took active and permanent measures to im…pose upon us a University formation to which death was in conscience preferable. It must have seemed long to wait some four hundred years to secure only what approximated to parity of opportunity for higher education. But, should the need arise, we should gladly reckon another four hundred years as short to wait, until in our own land, we might achieve the full development of University formation that is our imprescriptible right as citizens and as Catholics."
