Full leather. Zustand: Very Good-. 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Contemporary speckled calf with spine in six compartments. Ornate gilt tooled devices and double ruling to compartments. Gilt tooled morocco title label to spine. Contents, including original endsheets, intact and neat. Only mild toning to page stock. Prior ownership signature to front pastedown. A small mid 20th century bookseller ink stamp to the top corner of the ffep. Contents pages have a prior owner's helpful pencil marginalia indicating the dates the sermons were preached by Berriman. Here and there in the text are pencil notes in margins-editorial in style-which suggest the order of reading the sermons at service. It would appear that the sermons were later delivered-presumably by an American preacher-with some deletions, as indicated by the pencil notations. Leather is rubbed at edges and ends. External hinges tender; leather at front hinge beginning to split but with board still well attached. A reasonably basic repair is suggested to enhance the book's appearance and prolong its life. That said, this volume is complete and neat in its contents and the binding is reasonably well preserved. Volume I only of the II volumes that constitute the complete work. Scarce. First edition. Volume I of II. xvi, 400 p, 20 cm. 8vo.
