Namenskürzel auf Vorblatt, dieses etwas stärker stockfleckig, Innenseiten altersbedingt leicht gebräunt und z. T. schwach stockfleckig, Tafelseiten im wesentlichen gut erhalten, z. T. auch etwas stockfleckig. Vermutlich der erste Band des vierbändigen Standardwerkes. Wir gehen davon aus, dass es sich um den ersten Band der zweiten Auflage handelt, was aber auf dem Vortitel nicht explizit erwähnt ist. Allerdings ist das Vorwort zur Zweiten Auflage auf 1886 datiert enthalten, ebenso die für den ersten Band gängigen 106 Text- sowie 100 Tafelseiten. Mit einer gezeichneten Ansicht des Montblancs auf dem Verso des Vortitels sowie einem deutsch-lateinischen Namensverzeichnis. Ebenso wird abweichend nur Jos. First and 'Second Improved Edition', published in 1881 and 1886.Two volume set in the publisher's original cloth binding.Illustrated by frontispieces as well as one-hundred colour plates to both volumes by Joseph Seboth (1814-1883) an Austrian flower painter, as well as Jenny Merchant to the 1886 volume.This wonderfully illustrated set contains Volumes I and III within an informative series on alpine plants, with 'instructions on the culture of alpine plants' by Joh. Petrasch. These works are intended to supply information on alpine plants to the non-botanist through original and interesting colourful illustrations.Volume I is the 'Second Improved Edition' from 1886. Plants range from 'Atragene alpina. L. Alpenrebe' to 'Agrostis rupestris. All. Felsen-Windhalm.Volume III is the first edition copy from 1881. Plant species mentioned range from 'Anemone baldensis L. Erdbeerfruchtiges Windroschen' to 'Allosurus crispus Bernh. Rollfarn'.Written in the original German by Ferdinand Graf (1833-1877), a scientist and botanist.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with minimal bumping and wear to the extremities, head and tail of spine, and along the spines of joints. Loss to spine illustration on Vol I. Prior owner's pen inscription to recto of front endpaper of Vol I, as well as to the recto of front free endpapers for both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with age-toning to the text and the a few spots to the first few pages of text. Colour plates are very bright and clean, with the odd spot. Tissue guards protecting colour plates are age-toned to the margins. Very Good Indeed. book.
