This is the leader's account of the Swedish Antarctic expedition of 1901-3. The expedition made important discoveries on the East Coast of Graham Land, but in spite of this, and the spectacular story of its rescue, Nordenskjöld's account sold poorly in all its versions. This English version (which was also issued in the USA) was translated by Edward Adams-Ray.

Reimer, The Nordenskjold expedition was part of a three pronged geographical survey on the Antarctic continent devised at the International Geographical Congress of 1895. The others were Scott and Drygalski. Nordenskold's sector was to be the South Atlantic, and they achieved a great deal especially considering that they lost their ship Antarctic to the ice, which left the party stranded in three groups over winter.
