Interior in very good condition with minor signs of wear.; VERY HARD TO FIND.; In the 18th century interest in Chine de Commande, Chinese porcelain made to special order for Europeans was considerable. Porcelain decorated with coats of arms was particularly popular. For the Dutch market between 600-700 fine services with the arms of Dutch families are made, of which some 500 services are described in this book. This reference work will be the first publication to deal extensively with the subject. Aside from anyone interested in ceramics, heraldry, genealogy, social and colonial history of the history of East West relations, the book is useful to specialists like museums, libraries, auction houses and antique dealers. As one of the largest importers of Chinese porcelain during the 18th century, the Ducth left a special mark on the production of armorial porcelain. In particular in the 1730s and 1740s they had quite exceptional services made, decorated with rich heraldic images and other personalised pictures. The embodiment of Dutchness can be found in many of these fine armorial services, revealing the Ducth had their own special taste, which was quite often at odds with that of its neighbouring countries.
