At the age of twenty-one he collaborated with the Czech theorist Karel Teige creating typography for various magazines, utilizing his photographic knowledge. Originally influenced by Cubism and Futurism he started to create abstract photographs. Moving to Paris for the second time in 1927 Rössler focused on commercial photography, collaborating with the experimental studio of Lucien Lorell. Getting interested in "street life" of Paris he took photographs of demonstrations, was arrested and endured a six months imprisonment. He was expelled from the country after his release in 1935 to settle in Prague. The photographs featured in this publication demonstrate Rössler's artistic leanings and his preferred methods of photomontage, collage and drawing. Four of the included photographs measure 7 3/4" squares, one 9 1/2 x 6 1/2" and the sixth photo 6 1/4 x 7 3/4". Minor wear to binding.
