Best known for his distinctive and idiosyncratic album cover art for Columbia Records during the 1940s and 1950s, the American illustrator also produced covers and articles for mainstream magazines such as Fortune, Newsweek, and The New York Times Magazine. A few years after the artist's death in 1998, his paintings and fine art began receiving more recognition thanks to the research and cataloguing of Irwin Chusid and Barbara Economon.
