Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This is the English version of Jerzy Wroblewski's major work in Polish, S~dowe Stosowania Prawa (translated in his own preferred terms as 'The Judicial Application of Law'). The present translation arose out of a visit by the author to Scotland in 1989. In that year, the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland made it possible for Jerzy Wroblewski to spend six months as a Carnegie Fellow in the Centre for Criminology and the Social and Philosophical Study of Law at the University of Edinburgh. During that time he took a notably active part in the intellectual life of the Centre and the Faculty of Law. He gave freely of his time in teaching and advising students and also produced a series of original articles on topics connected with legal reasoning and law and computers. His major task while he was here, however, was to prepare a translation of S~dowe Stosowania Prawa, and this he accomplished to the extent of completing a preliminary draft. Zenon Bankowski and Neil MacCormickwere to help him in improving this linguistically and preparing the final text for publication. Wroblewski warned us, having finished his draft with great labour, that the greater labour would be in the polishing of it. For we would have, as he joked, 'to translate my English into English'. And certainly, we found it extremely time-consuming, so as to defy completion during his stay in Edinburgh.…

Juli 1918 geboren, studierte Kazimierz Opa ek 1936-39 an der Juristischen Fakultät der Universität Kraków. Nach dem Magisterium 1945 und dem Doktorat 1947 erfolgte seine Habilitation im Jahre 1952. Von 1954-61 war er als außerordentlicher Professor, von 1962-88 als ordentlicher Professor - in der Rolle des Leiters des Lehrstuhls für Theorie des Staates und des Rechts - an der Universität Kraków tätig. Hier wurde er im Jahre 1988 emeritiert. Im Verlaufe seiner akademischen Laufbahn nahm er viele Ämter ein und erhielt zahlreiche Ehrungen. 1954-56 amtierte er als Dekan der Juristischen Fakultät der Universität Kraków. 1956-62 war er Vize-Direktor des Instituts für Rechtswissenschaft der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Warszawa. 1962-64 war er als Prorektor der Universität Kraków tätig. 1972-83 amtierte er als Präsident des Komitees für Politikwissenschaft der Akademie; desgleichen seit 1975 als Vorsitzender der Kommission für Rechtswissenschaft der Abteilung der Akademie in Kraków. 1976 wurde er korrespondierendes Mitglied, 1986 ordentliches Mitglied der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften.Zu diesen Tätigkeiten kamen eine Reihe von internationalen Ehrungen und Ehrenämtern. So ist er seit 1972 Präsident der polnischen Sektion der Internationalen Vereinigung für Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie (IVR) und seit 1991 Präsidiumsmitglied eben dieser Vereinigung.Als Vortragsreisender war er in fast allen Ländern Europas sowie den USA und Kanada zu Gast.
