Slight scuffing to fore edge of first page, text is unaffected. Endpapers and pastedowns are slightly scuffed. Boards have slight edge wear with corner bumping. Mild tanning to spine and edges with some crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Leather slightly peeling to edges.

Holy Living was originally published in 1650; this copy is of the twenty-eight edition and published in 1810. Holy Dying was first published in 1651; this copy is of the twenty-seventh edition and published in 1808. Each volume contains the crown bookplate of Harriot, Duchess of St. Albans, Stratton Street Library, on the front pastedown, with the armorial bookplate of Sidney A. Kirkman tipped onto the front free endpaper. Holy Living also has a short biography of the Duchess, also known as Harriet Mellon, tipped onto the front free endpaper. Apparently, the Duchess was an English actress of Irish descent, with the stage name of Lydia Languish. Her title was obtained through her second marriage, to the ninth Duke of St. Albans. Full marbled calf leather with red spine labels. Holy Living: xx,378p., [ii], front cover detached, with some wear to the extremities; otherwise a very clean copy with effectively no foxing, and no noted chips, tears or markings. Holy Dying: xv, [v], 438p., [ii], very similar condition except that it appears that the front cover may have been expertly reattached at some point in its existence. . Hard Cover. It was also seen as the "artistic climax" of a consolatory death literature tradition that had begun with Ars moriendiin the 15th century.Originally published in 1650 and 1651, respectively.Written by cleric of the Church of England, Jeremy Taylor, who is sometimes referred to as the "Shakespeare of Divines" and achieved fame as an author during the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards.Externally, with rubbing to the extremities, most notably to the spine, and scuffs to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots to the endpapers. Very Good. book.

Much age toning which is age appropriate. The name "S: Geor." is written in old cursive ink on the title page. And the name Charles H. Wharton is written in pencil on that same page also.
