These range from Jefferson's scientific observations on geology and natural history, which Moore argues are contrary to a belief in God as the creator of all things, to Jefferson's comments on African Americans and slavery. Moore studied at Columbia College and studied for the ministry, but was never ordained. He was a professor of Oriental and Greek literature, as well as Divinity and Biblical Learning at the General Theological Seminary from 1821-1850.
