In den WarenkorbNo. 44 of 50 copies, signed by Stuart. Introduction by Ward Ritchie and signed by him in ink. With red printers' flowers used throughout and some ornaments of birds, butterflies printed in red and blue, line blocks of the areas of the house where the words were inscribed including a moveable flap on the 'Minstrel's Gallery'. Pri…nted in Fabritius type in light blue, dark blue and red on Ingres Antique paper. The reproduced calligraphy of direct printed copies of Jeffers' own script. Oblong sq. 8vo., original ivory canvas with inset printed fleuron. Housed in the original ivory canvas Soldander box with inset cast paper design of the front door of Tor House by the book and paper artist Joseph D'Ambrosio. Extremely good. The imprint of Gloria Stuart, possibly best known for her role as the elderly Rose in the film Titanic. She began printing late in life, buying a Vandercook proof press and accumulating type including Bruce Rogers' Centaur type and Frederick Warde's Arrighi type. She was most enamoured by Rudolf Koch's Antiqua of which she acquired an almost complete range. She began printing broadsides but soon moved onto books, her first being Enishi. In Matrix vol. 8 Ward Ritchie describes her books as "ingenious in their concept and each one quite different". In her early life Gloria had lived in an artists' colony in Carmel and as Ritchie says, she began to revive some of her memories there in her projects for her press Imprenta Glorias. She was especially exercised by Robinson Jeffers who had lived in and wrote about the area, and his poetry had held great importance in her life. Jeffers had painstakingly built a stone house called 'Tor' as well as tower he called 'Hawk' on a point overlooking the coast, personally dragging up the boulders he used from the shore. On the beams and archways he painted or carved quotations which appealed to him for his wife and twin sons. Gloria Stuart gathered these together for this book which give an insight into Jeffers and his inspirations.

In den Warenkorbdj. First Edition. First edition of each of the three volumes. VOLUME ONE (2009) covers 1890 to 1930 (700 copies printed); VOLUME TWO (2011) covers 1931 to 1939 (525 copies printed); and VOLUME THREE (2015) covers 1940 to 1962 (only 425 copies printed). A duplicate set from the collection of Allen K. Mears, who is included in th…e acknowledgements for Volume I. He's also noted as the source of letters in Vol. I (p. 933); Vol. II (p. 988); and Vol. III (pp. 47 & 454). This set has a copy of an inscription from Karman to Mears in a mailing envelope laid into Vol. I. Mears' extensive penciled notations to the front endpaper of Vol. 2, which also has a printout of an email from Karman to Mears ("Here's the jacket for Volume 3") laid in along with a large color printout of proposed jacket for Vol. 3. (The only difference we note between the printout and the eventual dust jacket is that the background photos of Robinson and Una on the front and back panels are much clearer in the printout.) Volume 3 has a copy of a different inscription from Karman to Mears pasted to the front endpaper. Near fine to fine in fine dust jackets.

In den WarenkorbIncludes two 2-page letters, six half- to full-page letters, and 12 postcards (one of which appears in COLLECTED LETTERS OF ROBINSON JEFFERS: WITH SELECTED LETTERS OF UNA JEFFERS, Vol. 3, p. 454). All are entirely handwritten and quite legible. Nineteen are to Robert Gros; one is to a Mr. Getz. They cover a wide range of topics…including social events, invitations to visit, acknowledgements for items received, travel plans, WWII concerns (for sons Garth and Donnan), family trips for Robinson's readings, the "new" play (MEDEA), and Una's own medical concerns. Robert R. Gros (1914-1997) was a corporate executive and government adviser on international affairs. He twice rode the military airlift supply operations into blockaded Berlin after World War II, served several U.S. presidents and was personally commended by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 for his services to the American Council on NATO. Altogether very good to near fine. Signed.
