Notre exemplaire est présenté sous couverture d'attente de cartonnage souple vert, dos lisse sable avec mentions manuscrites du nom de l'auteur et titre de l'ouvrage, plats de cou…verture conservés, mais premier volant avec manques marginaux. * « Jean Journet, surnommé l'Apôtre, était une figure parisienne pittoresque et excentrique, souvent brocardée par ses contemporains. Anciencarbonaro, pharmacien à Limoux, il découvre la philosophie de Fourier et décide de répandre sa doctrine en abandonnant sa famille et en prenant son bâton de pèlerin. Son évangélisme humanitaire, prônant la fraternité et l'association, l'a amené à écrire de nombreuses brochures qu'il diffusait de manière intempestive : en les jetant du « paradis » dans les théâtres ou en faisant le siège des écrivains célèbres et des rédactions. Interné plusieurs fois à Bicêtre, Journet trouve à sa mort un défenseur en Nadar qui publie un article dansLe Figarole 27 octobre 1861, ainsi conclu : «Ah mes chers fous! que je vous aime bien mieux que tous ces sages.» Nadar s'inspire de la peinture espagnole du Siècle d'Or pour rendre «cette tête fulgurante de saint Pierre». | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] The rare first edition of this collection of Fourierist poems. Our copy is presented in temporary green soft cardboard covers, smooth sandy spine with manuscript notations of the author's name and title of the work, original covers preserved, but first flyleaf with marginal lacks. * "Jean Journet, nicknamed the Apostle, was a picturesque and eccentric Parisian figure, often mocked by his contemporaries. A former carbonaro, pharmacist in Limoux, he discovered Fourier's philosophy and decided to spread his doctrine by abandoning his family and taking up his pilgrim's staff. His humanitarian evangelism, advocating fraternity and association, led him to write numerous pamphlets which he distributed in untimely fashion: by throwing them from the 'paradise' in theaters or by besieging famous writers and editorial offices. Committed several times to Bicêtre, Journet found at his death a defender in Nadar who published an article in Le Figaro on October 27, 1861, thus concluded: "Ah my dear madmen! how much better I love you than all these wise men." Nadar draws inspiration from Spanish Golden Age painting to render "this blazing head of Saint Peter".
