[170 x 107 x 28 mm]. xx, xvi, 17-228, [4] pp. Bound in half green goatskin by Sotheran, with ink pallet on the verso of the front free endpaper, with marbled paper sides, gilt tooled bands, lettered in the second compartment in blind and in the fourth compartment in gilt, the remaining with gilt centres, marbled edges, marbled endleaves. (Corners bumped, spine faded, showing signs of wear). Neat ink inscription to the front flyleaf. Tissue guards lightly foxed, title page and plate 1 with no tissue guard. Edges a little browned and some occasional light foxing, otherwise internally very clean. A good copy.

No dust jacket. 268 pages all intact, papers edged with marble effect, tight bindings. This gorgeous book is in exceptionally fine condition, and as its a used book, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Illustrated with thirty-two plates, with the majority of the stunning plates, hand coloured, with memoir and portrait of Madam Merian. This wonderful book has been rebound by a high quality book-binder, and even though there is the odd mark, the pages are so clean and in really fine order. First Edition, Published date of the book is 1836, published and printed by W.H. Lizars, St James Square, Edinburgh. A book to treasure, that would grace any stylish library.

Front board is detached (but present). Rear board is quite loosely attached to spine, and edges of spine are cracked and frayed. Spine ends and leading corners are worn and frayed. Pages are lightly rough-cut. Hinges are very cracked and binding is a little loose. Pages are a little foxed, with heavier foxing at front and rear. Text and illustrations remain clear. AF. Used.

This stunning book has been beautifully bound and is in really good condition, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Published in 1861, tissue guard paper for title page still intact. Inside board has named label with crest. 416 pages all intact and nice tight binding. The book also has a nice blue coloured, cotton, page marker. All pages, text and fabulous illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. The odd and occasional foxing mark, hardly noticeable. A truly lovely book that would adorn any stylish library.
