Reliure de l'époque demi-maroquin à coins cerise, filets dorés, dos à nerfs ornés de roulettes et encadrés de fers dorés, tête dorée, couvertures et dos conservés, 366 pp., 1 carte, 131 gravures sur bois annoncées 121 dont 31 hors-texte, dessinées d'après les photograp…hies de la mission, certaines prises par Jane Dieulafoy, index alphabétique. Il a été tiré de cet ouvrage 15 exemplaires numérotés sur papier du Japon, celui-ci N 4. Tête et pied de dos, nerfs et coins légèrement frottés, petit accroc en coin de pied, intérieur d'une grande fraîcheur, exempt de toute rousseur. Bel exemplaire. Marcel Dieulafoy (1844-1920), ingénieur polytechnicien versé dans l'étude de l'art antique de l'Iran (notamment Persépolis), et son épouse Jane (1851-1916), femme aux talents mutiples, conduisent de 1884 à 1886 deux campagnes de fouilles, avec un financement des Musées Nationaux. L'exploration concerne surtout le palais perse, où la "frise des lions" puis la "frise des archers" sont dégagées, puis rapportées en France, avec également un chapiteau de l'Apadana quasiment intact. Ils seront restaurés et exposés au Louvre. C'est ce second séjour qui correspond aux fouilles de Suse, exécutées dans des conditions des plus difficiles, et que Jeanne couvre dans ce Journal.
