Première édition française du célèbre traité d'anatomie, paru en langue flamande à Leyde en 1718, du chirurgien et anatomiste Jean Palfyn (Courtrai, 1650 - Gand, 1730). Dans sa préface, Palfyn rend hommage à ses maîtres flamands ou parisiens, Joseph Du Verney du Jardin Royal des Plantes, Verheyen ou Boerhave. L'ouvrage est divisé en sept traités. C'est un véritable cours d'anatomie, qui associe descriptions et retours d'expérience. Il est illustré de planches fidèles à l'ouverture d'un corps. L'ouvrage témoigne du développement au XVIIIe siècle des études anatomiques et physiologiques regroupant un savoir, un art de la dissection et une pratique quotidienne. Jean Palfyn est connu également pour ses contributions en obstétrique : il est l'inventeur du forceps, le "tire-tête". Cet ouvrage a paru en langue flamande à Gand en 1702, puis à Leiden en 1724. Il est "fort différent de celui qu'il a inséré dans son "Anatomie", en ce qu'il l'a enrichi de nouvelles planches qui ne se trouvent point ailleurs et de notes chirurgicales propres à bien diriger les étudiants en chirurgie." (Approbation du chirurgien Devaux). Il est illustré de 8 planches gravées en taille-douce. Ces illustrations sont donc différentes de celles qui concernent les os de l' "Anatomie du corps humain" du même auteur, publiée en 1726. C'est le premier ouvrage de Jan Palfijn. "Il y expose avec beaucoup de méthode et une précision remarquable les notions que l'on avait acquises alors sur la nature, la conformation et les maladies des os ; il a de plus le mérite d'y avoir donné des renseignements nouveaux sur les sinus de la face, les sutures du crâne et les mouvements de la mâchoire." It is 'very different from his "Anatomy", in that he enriched it with new plates which are not found elsewhere and with surgical notes apt to direct the students in surgery.' (Approval by the surgeon Devaux). It is illustrated with 8 engraved plates. These illustrations are therefore different from those concerning the bones of the 'Anatomie du corps humain' by the same author, published in 1726. It is Jan Palfijn's first work, "He exposes with great method and remarkable precision the notions that had been acquired at that time on the nature, the conformation and the diseases of the bones; he also has the merit of giving new information on the sinuses of the face, the sutures of the skull and the movements of the jaw.
