James Willard Schultz (1859-1947), also known by his Blackfeet Indian name Apikuni, was a legendary figure in his native Montana, where he spent many years as a trapper, trader, and guide. Beginning later in life Schultz began his prolific literary career, publishing more than 40 full-length works and hundreds of articles, most based on his long acquaintance with the Blackfeet and Flathead tribes and life in the Rocky Mountain West.

Schultz was also known by his Blackfoot name, Apikuni or Ap-i-Kun-i. He was an American author, explorer, Glacier National Park guide, fur trader, and historian of the Blackfeet Indians. He lived among the Pikuni tribe from 1880-82 and operated a fur trading post out of Carroll, Montana. Artist Stockton Mulford, 1886-1960, studied at the Art Student's League in New York and is best-known for his book cover illustrations for detective and adventure stories.
