Covers of the 5 Volume set have a beautiful Gold embossed head of Victoria surrounded by other embossed gold accroutments of Royalty. This was published at the height of an Empire ruled by "One Flag", " One Navy and Army" and above all "one Queen" : the age of "jingoism" when the words " send in a gun boat " ( the drones of the day) would strike fear in to any rebellious heart. Would make a nice library decoration to offset a room or antique bookcase. Of some value to the Historical researcher as well. 5 Volume set for £60. Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. His wide-ranging achievements made a lasting impact on printing processes, horticulture, and environmental protection. During McFarland's early years, his father operated a nursery and a small weekly newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McFarland worked in both of his father's businesses as a youth. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. The piece measures 8.5 inches by 11 inches. United States Army: Alfred M. Gruenther (1899-1983), U.S. Army General. Nicknamed - The Brain,' Gruenther was instrumental in planning the Allied invasions of North Africa in 1942 and Italy in 1943. Ralph C. Smith (1893-1998), U.S. Army Major General, signed as "Ralph C. Smith / Maj Gen. US ARMY. RET." Smith commanded forces in the Pacific Theater, and was tasked with the defense of the Hawaiian Islands. Maxwell D. Taylor (1901-1987), U.S. Army General. Taylor served with distinction in Sicily, Italy, Normandy, and the Netherlands, and was the commander of the 101st Airborne Division, - The Screaming Eagles.' James Van Fleet (1892-1992), U.S. Army General. Van Fleet's leadership during the Utah Beach landings on D-Day earned him a Distinguished Service Cross. James M.
