Kirkman, Fort Jesus, January 1968'. James Spedding Kirkman (1906-1989) was Warden of Coastal Historical Sites of Kenya for many years, and is considered a pioneer of Swahili archaeology. This is Kirman's introduction to the history of the coast of East Africa, with details on monuments such as mosques, palaces, forts and pillar tombs. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs, with a foreword by Sir Mortimer Wheeler. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper.
