When it opened at the Seventh Avenue South Playhouse, critics for The New York Times, wrote that it was ''fundamentally knowledgeable and discerning.'' Mr. Lee also wrote the script for the 1959 movie adaptation of ''Career,'' which starred Anthony Franciosa, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine. Career is a 1959 blacklist film drama co-written by Dalton Trumbo.
