The March through August 1938 issues of the American Magazine, vol 125 #3 through #8. containing the complete serialization of Too Many Cooks, Stout's classic fifth Nero Wolfe novel parts 1 - 6 of 6, Precedes the book publication. Other stories and articles include Scattergood starts a revolution, a short story by Clarence Budington Kelland (3/38), Two Can Sing, a short novel by James M Cain (4/38) , What Price Story!, a sort story by Max Brand (5/38), Girls Without Gold, a short story by Clarence Budington Kelland (6/38), & It's in the Bag, an article on golf by HoF golfer Gene Sarazen (6/38), parts 1 & 2 of For Beauty's Sake, a novel by Clarence Budington Kelland (7 & 8/38), and others. Condition issues include: March - light edge wear to the front cover, soiling at the bottom of the verso of the front cover & page 1, small loss at the bottom of the spine with a 1" closed tear at the lower right, light soiling & small closed tears to the back cover, and a closed tear to the fore edge of the pages from 176, fading out by page 166; April - light edge wear to the from cover, light wear at the bottom of the spine, a closed tear at the bottom of the back cover & page 182, and pages 145 - 150 are missing affecting ads for Barbasol, Kleenex & Virginia Conservation Commission and the My Husband is a Detective article; May - light soil & edge wear to the front cover, light to moderate soiling to the spine, and a reading crease to the back cover; June - light soil & edge wear to the front cover, light soiling & wear at the ends to the spine, and light soiling to the back cover; July - light soil & edge wear to the front cover, light wear at the top of the spine, and light soiling to the back cover; and August - Sticker remnants at the upper right of the front cover, and ink stain to the top edge of the back cover, ad light wrinkling to the top edge of the pages that suggest moisture exposure but there are not stains. A very good example of a hard to find and assemble set with a complete classic early Stout novel. A heavy, oversize set that will require additional postage.
