In den WarenkorbSecond edition of this rare missionary imprint, revised from the first and equally scarce, WorldCat recording no copies of either. The author, an adept theologian and entrepreneurial proselytizer, was a cornerstone of the missionary movement in Guangxi during the late Qing and early Republican periods. Born to the founder of the Toronto Globe, Jaffray (1873-1945) trained for the Christian & Missionary Alliance in New York and journeyed to China in 1897. In Wuzhou, he served as the head of the Bible School and, in 1911, he founded the South China Alliance Press to publish materials in vernacular Chinese and the written classical style (as here). By 1922, the press had printed over five million pages. His life in the subject of Let My People Go! (1947), a biography by the influential American pastor, A. W. Tozer. Octavo. Text in Chinese, title page and index also given in English. Original greyish wrappers, front cover lettered in black in English and Chinese Ex-Shanghai Korean Christians Association library, with manuscript shelf label on spine and contemporary red ink stamp on title page and p.1. Spine worn, browning to covers and contents as usual: a very good copy of a fragile publication.
