La revue Fontaine fondée par Max-Pol Fouchet en 1939 est la principale revue de la résista…nce intellectuelle française pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Depuis Alger, Fontaine rallia tous les poètes, artistes et écrivains hostiles à la collaboration. De 1942 à 1944, à Limoges où résidait Georges-Emmanuel Clancier, étaient collectés les articles et poèmes écrits en France occupée, et envoyés à Albert Béguin à Genève puis expédiés à Tanger. Et de là en Algérie par Georges Blin. La revue publiait aussi les auteurs français réfugiés alors aux U.S.A. et dans le monde libre comme André Breton, Saint-John Perse, Georges Bernanos, etc. (L'Intelligence en guerre, Vignes-Lacroix, 2001, pages 201 et suivantes.) Jean Jacques Joseph Leroy d'Étiolles (1798-1860) est l'auteur d'inventions… ingénieuses et de perfectionnements opératoires, surtout pour le traitement des maladies de l'appareil génito-urinaire (en particulier il prit une part importante dans la découverte de la lithotritie et fut reconnu par l'Académie des Sciences comme l'inventeur des premiers instruments lithotriptiques). Il expose ici les divers procédés opératoires qu'il imagina pour traiter les fistules vésico-vaginales, alors très difficiles à traiter. La cystoplastie par glissement ne fut créée, par Jobert de Lamballe, que trois ans plus tard. Cette publication présente l'avantage d'être abondamment illustrée. This operation was known as elythroplasty or cystoplasty. This method was modified by Velpeau and by J.J. Leroy d'Etiolles, who dissected a flap from the posterior vaginal wall (1842). But despite Malgaigne's favorable comment, the operation was eventually abandoned. In 1847, de Lmballe invented another method."; G. Androutsos, Le 'prince de la chirurgie', Antoine Jobert de Lamballe (1799-1867) et la première cure radicale des fistules vésico-vaginales par sa méthode de cystoplastie, Prog Urol, 2003, 13, 707-710 : "Leroy d'Etiolles (1798-1860) modifia le procédé de Velpeau, en taillant un lambeau quadrilatère à base supérieure, aux dépens de la paroi postérieure du vagin et en le roulant sur lui-même, pour appliquer sa surface saignante contre les bords de la fistule.".

Provenance: Engraved armorial bookplate of Belgian revolutionary Anne Therese Philippine d'Yves and inscribed by her above the bookplate: "This book was bought of M. Verbyste at Bruxelles June 1840"; ownership inscription at head of title-page Eleonora Adelaide Sophia Leopoldina Kilvers 1840, nee de Chievre Later edition of "Castella." first published in 1694, second edition of "L'Erection.", these works are often found bound together, and depict the monuments, castles and Abbeys of Brabant. The four parts to the first work are Louvain, Brussels, Antwerp and Bois-Leduc. From the library of pamphleteer and Brabantine revolutionary Anne Therese Philippine d'Yves. The Brabant Revolution was a short-lived revolt (1789-1790 of the Belgian provinces of the Austrian Netherlands against Habsburg rule. The center of the revolt was the province of Brabant, and the "stone-throwing" women of the region were a major force for the Austrians to reckon with: "The Comtesse d'Yvres was unique among the Brabant revolutionaries in being able to mediate between the two revolutionary factions, the traditionalists and the democrats, leaders of both factions relied on the Comtesse to intervene with the other side on their behalf and to arrange confidential meetings. When Austrians arrested a number of suspected revolutionary leaders, the mayor of Brussels, who visited her almost daily, warned her to be ever circumspect. Her ideas were being discussed publicly on every street in Brussels, he suggested. She refused to head his advice and continued to rally the leaders of the Estates and the clandestine democratic committee, supplying them with the latest pamphlets and pressing them to persevere in their defense of the rights of the Belgium people."
