This volume deals with astronomy, light, colours, shadow, fire, history of experimental physics (including geographical discoveri…es) and history of theoretical physics. The book contains an engraved frontispiece by Jacques-Philippe Le Bas (1707-1783) and 28 plates and maps (e.g., solar and lunar eclipses, constellations, world map, Egyptian gods, map of Phoenician colonies, map of ancient Greece, Ptolemy world map, armillary sphere, maps of the Mediterranean Sea, Scandinavia, America and Asia, thermometers, movement of the planets); almost all of these copper engravings were made by Pierre Bourgoin; the engraving of thermometers was made by Jacques-Philippe Le Bas. Die Darstellung ist in einem guten Zustand.; PROVENIENZ: Aus Berliner Privatbesitz.; VITA: Jacques-Philippe Le Bas (geboren 1707 in Paris; gestorben 1783 ebenda) war ein französischer Kupferstecher. Er lernte bei Antoine Hérisset in Paris. Unter den ca. 500 bekannten Stichen befinden sich viele Abbildungen nach David Teniers, Claude Joseph Vernet, Nicolas Pitersz und Adriaen van Ostade. Er gilt als Wiederentdecker der Kaltnadelradierung und wurde für seine Verdienste von Louis XVI zum Königlichen Graveur ernannt. Zudem war er Mitglied der Académie royale.
