Reginald Jacques was also conductor of the Oxford Orchestra Society from 1930 to 1936. From 1931 to 1960 he was conductor of The Bach Choir in London. In 1936 he founded his own Jacques Orchestra, which he conducted until 1960. In 1954 he was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He died in 1969. John Rutter was born in London in 1945 and studied music at Clare College, Cambridge. His compositions embrace choral, orchestral, and instrumental music, and he has edited or co-edited various choral anthologies, including four Carols for Choirs volumes with Sir David Willcocks and the Oxford Choral Classics series. From 1975 to 1979 he was Director of Music at Clare College, and in 1981 he formed his own choir, the Cambridge Singers. He now divides his time between composition and conducting and is sought after as a guest conductor for the world's leading choirs and orchestras. Born in 1919, David Willcocks began his musical career as a chorister at Westminster Abbey, later winning scholarships to Clifton College and King's College, Cambridge. Following war service, he was elected Fellow of King's College, and later became Organist of Salisbury & Worcester Cathedrals, conducting the Three Choirs Festival whilst at Worcester. Willcocks returned to King's College, Cambridge as Director of Music from 1957-1974, with the first collection of his arrangements in the Carols for Choirs series publishing in 1961. He was Director of Music at the Royal College of Music from 1974-1984, died 2015 ; FINE. Book.

Witteveen and many of those who collaborated with him in the past decades have decided a while ago that his great scientific and social merits are ample reason for presenting him with a Liber Amicorum. The fortieth anniver…sary of his appointment as professor at the Netherlands School of Economics in Rotterdam in the Spring of 1988 seemed a suitable time for presentation. For this purpose a committee was formed consisting of the members listed below. The last three of these also act as editorial committee of this anniversary volume. The topic the editorial committee chose is 'The quest for national and global economic stability'; this topic has always attracted Dr Witteveen's special attention and is in fact the common theme of his publications and speeches. In compiling this volume, the editorial committee tried to give expression to the three fields in which Dr Witt eve en developed his main activities: university, politics and international economic organizations. The committee is deeply grateful to the authors who promised and supplied their contributions with great enthusiasm. All contributions were completed before August 1, 1987.

In many regions of the world, marine and lacustrine hydrosystems are (or have been) the object of severe or fatal alterations, from changes in regional hydrological regimes and/or modifications of the quantity or the quality of water resources associated with (natural or man-made) land reclamation, deterioration of geochemical balances (increased salinity, oxygen's depletion . . ), mutations of ecosystems (eutrophication, dramatic decrease in biological diversity . ) to geological disturbances and to the socio-economic perturbations which have been - or may be in the near future - the consequences of them. Seas and lakes are dying all over the world and some may be regarded as already dead and there is an urgent need to try to understand how this is happening and identify the causes of the observed mutations, weighing the relative effects of climatic evolution and anthropic interferences. This book is the outcome of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop, held in Liege in May 2003. The Workshop was organized at th the University of Liege as a follow on meeting to the 35 International Liege Colloquium on Ocean Dynamics, dedicated in 2003 to Dying and Dead Seas.
