In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. First Edition. 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 160 pages; 1965 Scott, Foresman & Company. HC in yellow and white color pictorial boards. Rare example of the Initial Teaching Alphabet [ita] edition. Presumed 1st edition thus. Tightly bound and very neat. Just superficial toning at spine and a whisper of shelf so…iling to boards. The ITA Was an experimental phonetic alphabet devised by James Pitman in the early 1960s for use in beginning reading instruction. It employed a set of 44 characters to represent the sounds of spoken English directly, including many unfamiliar letterforms and ligatures for digraphs (eg. Special symbols for "sh, " "th, " and long vowels). Text is fully composed in this distinctive script, giving the book an unusual typographic appearance compared to standard Dick-and-Jane family primers. An uncommon survival from the brief ITA Experiment in American schools. VG++ to NF.
