One of 160 sets of the Edition de Luxe, published 1899/1900 and bound for the renowned collector Henry Arthur Johnstone who had is complete library bound in more or less uniform style in red leather with his ex-libris in pigskin as an additional endpaper. Johnstones library was dispersed after his death in the 1920s and the bindings alone are worth the price of this set. Books are in very good condition with minor rubbing but the lower part of the backstrips of volume three is stained. Internally fine with beautiful reproductions of famous paintings by J. M. W. Turner. 91 Illustrations altogether with a second set of the illustrations in Volume 3. Massive folio volumes weighing more then 10 KG. A unique set for the discerning collector. Included is an invoice from 1958 when the books were sold to a buyer in the US for 14 Pounds and 3 Shillings with the shipping costs accounting for a third of the total price. J.M.W. This copy is no. 79. A few neat pencilled notes in the text, contemporary with the book and by someone evidently a Ruskin scholar and admirer of Turner. Neat name on front endpaper of one, Barry C.
