In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not stated (illustrator). First edition. A first edition of this uncommon translation of the Old Norse Sverris Saga. A first edition of this translation of the Sverris saga, an Old Norse biography of the twelfth century King. With eight maps to the rear, collated but lacking the map called for in a pocket. In this uncommon work, J. Sephton translates this important historical source that was believed to have been written under the King's sponsorship. Although the saga is likely biased as a result it covers his rise to power, his victory over the Heklungs, his disputes with the church, and the 1196 Bagler war. Volume IV from the Northern Library Series. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, 'B. J. Findlay 1966'. In the publisher's quarter cloth binding over hard boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, joints, and the spine. A little bumped to the extremities and the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing tot the front and rear of the volume, pages are generally bright and clean. Very Good. book.

In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). First edition. An uncommon English translation of the sagas of the tenth century king Olaf Tryggvason. A first edition of this English translation of the sagas of Óláfr Tryggvason, a 10th-century Norwegian king. In this uncommon volume, J. Stephson translates the text from the Fornmanna Sogur, printed in Copenhagen in 1825. The first sagas about the king were written in the 1190s by Oddr Snorrason and Gunnlaugr Leifsson, and although these latin sagas are now lost, they are thought to have formed the basis of later Old Norse sagas. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper 'B. J. Findlay' In the publisher's original cloth binding over card boards. Externally, generally smart. A centimetre of the paper is lifting to the rear board, and the cloth is rubbed around the rear joint. Lightly bumped to the extremities, and to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good. book.
