Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. On offer here is a very rare little booklet titled: "The Message of an Indian Relic" by the Rev. D.r J.P.D. Llwyd. This small soft cover booklet features a paste-down, color photo of the Tlingit Totem Pole that was erected in Pioneer Place in the City of Seattle. It originally stood in the village of Tongass on Queen Charlotte Island. The current version is one that has been replaced in the 1940's and then restored in 1972. This booklet is well decorated with pertinent imagery and photos. Please see my photos. Condition: This booklet is in very good condition. The book is held together with a red string binding, now a bit worn. The soft covers, front and back are a bit worn and faded but still fully legible. Inside, there is a penciled gift inscription on the first blank page. The interior pages and their illustrations are clean and bright, and without toning or foxing. A tight and nice first edition of the first book from this English-born Canadian church figure (1861-1953), the long-time Dean of Halifax and Prolucutor of the Lower House of the General Synod, as well as author of several other books. "Vestal Virgin" is a book-length poem set in second century A.D. Rome. Bookplate on inside front wrapper of noted Wisconsin collector Royal D. Tyrrell (1891-1964). Accompanied by an Autograph Note Signed ("The Author") from Llwyd, 1p, heavy stock 5½" X 3½" correspondence card, "Dean's House / Halifax," n.d. Very good. Faint age toning, with paper clip rust mark at right.
