This study examines the related aspects of location, accessibility, exploitation, attempted colonisation and boundary changes… in Bolivia since 1825 and reviews the political and economic geography of the western, northern and southern sectors today. Dr Fifer examines Bolivia's role as a buffer state and the progressive reduction of its territory to about half of what was originally claimed in exchange, effectively, for railways and transit agreements. The consequences of the country's position in the South American interior have been no less evident in the wider context of international relations and this study also traces the influence of location in the political and commercial attitudes displayed towards Bolivia by Britain and the USA during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Finally the long-term effects of a landlocked position on the country's national growth and development are reviewed.

Externally, lovely condition with only minor bumping and rubbing. Light fading along some of the spines, especially to Castle Dangerous and The Bride of Lammermoor. A few marks can be seen across the collection, more prominent to the rear of Rob Roy. Peak and Peveril features slightly heavier loss of cloth along the rear joint, reinforced with tape. Internally, firmly bound. The frontispiece and title page of The Antiquary and Woodstock remain unopened, as does page 386 to The Antiquary. Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), the fortieth President of the United States, took office in January 1981 and assembled a cabinet that would guide one of the most consequential presidencies of the twentieth century. His first term brought sweeping tax cuts, a vast military buildup, and a hardening stance toward the Soviet Union, and his team included such influential figures as Secretary of State Alexander Haig, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, Budget Director David Stockman, and Director of Central Intelligence William Casey. Vice President George H.W. Bush would himself be elected to the White House in 1989. A signed group portrait bringing together an entire presidential cabinet is a great rarity, and this example preserves the founding team of the Reagan era complete.
