Haafner (oder Hafner, Halle 1755 - Amsterdam 1809) wurde schon als Kind nach Batavia verschlagen, wo sein Vater als Arzt eine Stelle bei der niederl. Ostindien Kompanie antreten sollte. Aber er starb auf See, und Jacob musste sich allein durchschlagen, bis er 12 Jahre später auch eine Stelle bei derselben Handelsgesellschaft an Land erhielt.
